Interesting Question Regarding Affordable Housing.
I had a client write me an email that stated:
Hi Dennis, I just wanted to say nice job, on your July AOA column. It was very interesting! I see you feel that repealing the Costa Hawkins Act would not work. If the Costa Hawkins Act remains intact, what's another alternative to create affordable housing in Los Angeles?
I really had to consider his question before responding, but here was my response to him.
Thank you for your kind words but I do take issue with the question that you raised. The concept of "affordable housing" is nonsense. All goods and services are controlled by the market. Our country was based on a free economy. There is no reason to create housing at an artificial level. It is not the job of society, nor should it be, to carve out exceptions to our economy. This is one reason why America is the greatest country.
